Leczenie niepłodności kobiet i mężczyzn

Sperm donation is aimed at couples diagnosed with infertility due to a male factor. In such cases, infertility treatment through insemination or IVF with donor sperm is often recommended.

In cases of infertility caused by an insufficient number or poor quality of sperm, the only option to expand the family is to participate in a sperm donation program. We offer infertility treatment options using one of the largest sperm banks in Poland. Our clinic also provides access to foreign sperm banks.

Indications for using donor sperm in infertility treatment

Sperm donation is primarily used when the male partner is diagnosed with azoospermia, which means a complete lack of sperm in the semen. In such cases, using donor sperm is the only possibility for the female partner to conceive. Using the services of a sperm bank may also be necessary in the case of genetic abnormalities in the male partner that could be passed on to the child.

How is the right sperm donor selected?

Before donating sperm, a number of tests must be performed, including diagnostic tests for infectious diseases. The donors are also screened for the presence of hepatitis B and C viruses, HBV, HIV, syphilis, and Chlamydia trachomatis, i.e. bacterial strains that may be etiological factors of many different disease syndromes. Donors also undergo genetic testing. Similarly to egg cell donation, the personal details of donors from sperm banks remain anonymous. Only the donors’ medical data and their phenotypic traits are available to the sperm recipient. Hence, donor sperm is primarily chosen based on the donor’s phenotypic data, such as height, body weight, and the colour of eyes and hair.

How is donor sperm used in infertility treatment?

In infertility treatment, donor sperm can be used for insemination procedure or during the in vitro fertilization process. Whether donor sperm is used for insemination or IVF, the procedure is the same as when using the partner’s sperm.
