The initial consultation and treatment can be quite stressful, therefore at OVIklinika (Angelius Group), we pay special attention to the comfort of our patients from the very beginning and throughout the entire treatment process. It is good if both of you attend the first visit. This will allow both of you to undergo diagnostics, and you will have the opportunity meet the attending physicians and the OVIklinika, who will guide you through the entire process with due delicacy and professionalism.

Below, you will find guidance on how to prepare for your first visit, an outline of the first visit, as well as information about what to expect after your initial consultation at OVIklinika.

Preparing for your first visit

  • During your first appointment, the doctor will perform a thorough medical interview in order to gather information about your health (separately for you and your partner). Thus, it is helpful to bring all previous test results, information on past illnesses, any hospital discharge summaries, and note down the date of the last period.
  • No special preparations are needed for the consultation, which can take place on any day of the cycle.
  • A semen analysis can be conducted on the day of the visit. Therefore, we request sexual abstinence 2-5 days prior to the appointment, ensuring personal hygiene to maintain maximum sterility, and making sure to rinse off soap thoroughly as it can be spermicidal. Comprehensive information about scheduling the semen analysis before the visit can be obtained at the Reception. Please notify us of your intention to undergo this test while booking your consultation.

What to expect during the visit

The initial consultation typically lasts between 30-40 minutes, but the duration always depends on our patients’ needs and can be extended.

The attending physician will perform thorough medical interview in order to gather information about your health. You will also be asked about any prior infertility treatments, if applicable, as our doctors specialize in failed attempts diagnostics.

For Women
The attending physician will perform a gynaecological examination and a transvaginal ultrasound in a separate room. It is advised to empty your bladder before the consultation for clearer imaging of the uterus and ovaries.
For Men
Semen analysis can be done on the day of your first consultation. Preliminary results are available in about 2 hours. If you want to get the results on the day of your visit, please notify us while making the appointment – a time for semen sample collection will be scheduled about 2-3 hours prior to your consultation. Semen sample analysis requires 2-5 days of sexual abstinence. We are aware that this can be a tense situation, so we strive to provide the most comfortable environment at OVIklinika. If you have had abnormal results previously, an additional urological test might be recommended.

What are the next steps?

The doctor will prescribe further tests, such as:

  • Hysterosalpingo-Contrast Sonography (HyCoSy / SonoHSG) – an examination that evaluates the patency of fallopian tubes, usually conducted between the 7th and 13th day of the cycle.
  • Hormonal tests to assess ovarian function: a blood test at the beginning of the cycle (between day 2 and day 5), evaluating levels of LH (Luteinizing Hormone), FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone), E2, and TSH. Additionally, an AMH test – a hormone assessing ovarian function, might be necessary.
